Anthropologist
David Grove was the originator of Clean
Language and
the inovator of many processes working with metaphor.
Clean Space uses the rpcess of emergence to model human
perception.
"
It is fast beoming clear that our lives revolve around
the powers of emergence. Complex problems are solved
by a profusion of relatively simple elements. Order
arrives friom the bottom-up, not top-down." David
Grove
It
was Penny Tompkins and James Lawley who developed Clean
Space after observing David Grove facilitating individuals
in small groups.

Perception
Emerges
The
Clean Space experience is being used throughout the
world in organisations such as NASA and Government Agencies.
I experienced it at the Findhorn Foundation in Scotland
where I found it to be a very powerful technique for
exploring different perceptions around a common goal
or issue.
What's
interesting is that whenever we see, hear, feel or touch
something it has a location or context. We just know
it somehow. NLP Practitioners use
sub-modalities
and perceptual
positions to
understand how information is coded in our minds. The
images in our mind are metaphors that exist in a mindscape.
They can free us or imprison us. The metaphor of space
is almost the medium for thought. For example, Quantum
Scientists talk about Possibility
Space being
the place where all our potential thoughts live. They
emerge into our conscious state when stimulated by other
patterns of thought.
Spatial
Sorting
In creating Clean Space a number of important things
are going on. Change requires movement and direction.
Hence the ability to behgin to see things from multiple
prerspectives. Clean Space is a mixture of Perceptual
Positions, Neuro-Logical Levels, SCORE and Timeline,
without the facilitator defining any of the spaces;
or defining the category of experience allocated to
the spaces; or predefining the number of steps.
In
Clean Space , each position is located by the client
group and its attributes defined by them. As a result,
the whole process emerges out of the client's innate
ability to blend their perceptions of metaphorical space
with their perception of physical space.
