at a DistanceBecoming
a Real Change Leader
An effective leader in today's fast
moving world needs to understanding the in's and out's, and
the up's and down's of change. I refer to this as
Change Dynamics. That is, to see things from
a number of different perspectives and balance the impact
of a diverse range of actions. This ensures that ego doesn't
get in the way of doing what the situation requires. It
allows everyday spirituality to be
a
force for change alongside customer demand, statutory requirements
and organisational needs.
Practical Action
Nomatter what your profession
or position, you gain by having a deeper understanding of
change and how to make it happen in a balanced and meaningful
way. This website is designed to be a resource to help you
achieve this balance so that you can shift from 'comfort zone'
to 'change zone' with the minimum of stress. After all, you
are looking for change that makes a real difference everyday,
everywhere and in everything you do. There can be no change
while talk substitutes for action..
xxxxxxxxx "We
are what we repeatedly do".
Aristotle
A Real Change Leader uses simple, clear
and direct language that is action orientated. Objections
to change are just barriers to overcome, not reasons not to
try. This is why the CLEAR
Model is so effective,
it shifts the focus of behaviour and communication from getting
compliance to commiting to purpose. It helps you and your
team avoid the complexity that stiffles action.
New Thinking
Be aware. The ChangeZone is
not a place for the faint hearted. It will challenge your
thinking and confront you with new ideas. For example, real
change requires you to think systemically, or to see the patterns
and relationships between things. For example, analysing work
from the outside-in requires a systems approach to Process
Mapping that becomes a powerful tool for improving
the way your work works. That's why real change requires a
dynamic approach, one that balances the forces that make up
the whole when seen from all directions..
"By citizens
I mean those who love the existing order; for those
who daily desire change are rebels and traitors".
Petrarch
There is a wealth of research
suggests that a change in behaviour is an effective way to
shift attitudes, and that to really know something you have
to have experienced it for yourself. The thinking and the
action need to happen at the same time. Hence the trend towards
action learning, reality TV and dare I say it - coaching.
I use Change
Labs to secure a team's commitment to action
and learning in real time that results in change that is mutually
beneficial.
They
can be followed up with After
Action Reviews to
reflect on what worked and what didn't, and to clarify what
needs to be done differently next time.
Change is now an integral
part of daily life. In the Change Zone you will find practical
tools, examples of good practice, on-line resources and e-mail
communities waiting to support your learning about change.Try
viewing change as your friend, and you will find ways of making
it happen in controlled and meaningful ways.
