Self-Managed
Learning
This
type of learning takes place when people take responsibility
for what they learn and how they learn it. It usually starts
with Learning Sets of around 6 people who take feedback from
their immediate reports to develop their learning contract
which contains their objectives at work for 6 months. This
means it has to be agreed with colleagues in the set and with
their line manager.
Each set has a Learning Adviser or
Learning Leader. The learning comes from sharing experiences
and ideas with each other, or addressing questions such as
- Why am I here ? and What do I want out of my life and work?
Participants discover a great deal about themselves - their
strengths and limitations.
As well as understanding their preferences
and energy levels for learning, the participants gain a more
strategic perspective on their life at work, and what they
want to learn from the experiences on offer.
